CardPlayer.com Review
Card Player.com Website Review
Card Player.com is best known for its constantly updated poker news and interviews. The site does a great job keeping up to date with the latest happenings in the poker world. On the front page there can always be found an updated list of recent tournament winners, player of the year standings, and even current tournament chip counts. If there is anything you want to know about the tournament world, Card Player magazine is the place to go.
Information about satellites into major tournaments, both online and live, can be found at Card Player as well. Just check out the front page for more information on that subject.
Card Player Live Tournament Events
Cash game players will probably find CardPlayer.com largely irrelevant because of its emphasis on live tournament events. There is one useful tool that many cash players use, though, and that is the poker odds calculator. It can be found under the ‘tools and tips’ tab. The calculator will let you fill in the hands for yourself and several other players, choose as many cards from the flop and turn, and then it will calculate the odds of each hand winning. Try calculating the odds of a straight flush draw vs. a set sometime and see what happens.
For the most part, though, the site focuses on the tournament side of the poker world. There are a few cash game strategy articles (which are actually quite informative) but the navigation system is overly complicated so it can be difficult to find them without being familiar with the site.
CardPlayer Forum
The site does offer forums, but they are not as populated as some of the other forums out there like twoplustwo.com or flopturnriver.com. These can be found in an obscure link under the ‘tools and tips’ tab. Again, there is another example of the cluttered navigation system. It would probably increase traffic to the forums if there was a more prominent link displayed on the front page of Card Player. The forums do have a decent amount of traffic however so it would definitely be beneficial to give them a look.
Card Player.com Blogs
There are several blogs hosted at Card Player as well, including Phil Hellmuth’s and Daniel Negreanu’s. They don’t offer a ton of strategy but they can be entertaining nonetheless. Just hover your mouse over the ‘poker news’ tab and you’ll see the link.
Mobile CardPlayer.com
One feature that really separates Card Player from the majority of other sites is its mobile phone page. There aren’t a whole lot of poker sites designed for mobile viewing, but card player offers it at www.cpmobile.us. Considering the large amount of content they have available, it’s not a bad deal at $3.99 a month. You can find updated tournament news, poker tips, and multimedia designed for mobile phones.
All in all CardPlayer magazine is an entertaining and somewhat useful resource that deserves a spot in your favorites folder. It does have its navigation issues but other than that it’s a very solid site so give it a look sometime.
