Poker.net Review

Poker.net Website Review

Poker.net ReviewRight off the bat, as if to tell you what it values the most, Poker.net opens with a barrage of affiliate advertisements.  Three times popups appeared asking me to download the software for different poker rooms.  That was more than a little annoying, but thankfully it didn’t continue beyond those three popups.

Unfortunately, the news section is just more of the same.  The headlines aren’t actually real news articles; they’re more like the poker room promotions that you might find in your e-mail every couple of days.

Poker.net Articles

If you click on the articles section, though, you’ll find a very solid selection of strategy articles.  They are well written and in depth.  The only problem with the articles is that they are all written by one guy so there isn’t any diversity.  On top of that, the author of all of these articles died in 2004, so some of the content is out of date.

Poker-net Bonuses

Poker-Net BonusesOne other thing Poker.net did well is its comprehensive list of poker room bonuses.  There are a ton of sign up bonuses for you to pick through.  If you’re not a US player, there’s all kinds of money to be made off the bonuses.  If you are a US player, well, the options become a bit limited.

There is a poker forum but it’s pretty much dead.  The most recent posts are ancient and most of those are just admin posts about poker room promotions.  Don’t waste any time with the Poker.net forums.

Poker.net Poker School

The Poker School section covers some of the basics such as hand rankings and table etiquette.  The Tips section is just terrible.  They are poorly written, generic to the point of useless and just plain wrong in some cases.  Here’s a nice little example of the type of tips you’ll find at Poker.net:

“Understand the difference between playing at the casino and playing online. At the casino, you'll have to play more wisely against possibly more skilled competition.”

Now, not only is it vague to the point of not actually being a tip, but it has the idea backwards.  The vast majority of poker players and pros have come to the consensus years ago that casinos have much softer tables than online poker rooms.  Do yourself a favor and skip the tips.

Poker.net Offline Directory

To make up for the lackluster tips section, the Offline Directory has a good amount of information.  This part of the site has a list of casinos in 26 states and 23 countries.  The names, locations, websites and phone numbers for every casino are provided in an easy to access format.  There are a few casinos missing from the list, but overall it’s a good start.

While the articles and bonuses sections are nice, there’s just not a whole lot of content to keep visitors wanting to come back again.  Check the site out sometime but don’t plan on spending a whole lot of time there and don’t worry about finding room on your favorites list for it.
