PokerStars Promotions

PokerStars ReviewPokerstars promotions, such as the Pokerstars Sunday Million, are among the most famous events and incentives in online poker. Since PokerStars is the most popular poker room on the Internet, it’s really no surprise that they would offer a ton of promotions to their players. They’ve got sign-up bonuses, frequent player points and all sorts of major poker events to keep their customers satisfied.

All current Poker Stars promotions are listed below.

100% First-Time Deposit Bonus

Until the end of 2008, players making their first real-money deposit will receive a matching 100% bonus up to $50. In order to cash out the money, you’ll need to collect Frequent Player Points equal to 10 times your bonus, and you must acquire the points within six months of your first deposit.

$1 Million PokerStars Turbo Takedown

A prize pool of at least a million dollars is available, and one in three participants will end up getting paid. Held the last Sunday of every month, first prize is a guaranteed $100,000, and the buy-in cost is 5,000 frequent player points. You can also qualify for play via a satellite tournament.

Battle of the Planets

Multi-player Sit & Go tournaments have been divided into eight divisions (based on their buy-in cost) and named after a planet in our solar system. Each division is divided into two leader boards: low orbit (for casual players) and high orbit (for high-volume players). Each division has a weekly prize pool, and the higher you’re positioned on the leader board, the more money you’ll win.

If you finish in the Top 10 of any weekly Sit & Go leader board, you’ll also receive free entry into the monthly Battle of the Planets $50,000 Triple Shootout. The prize pool is a guaranteed $50,000, and it often ends up being much higher.

Multi-Table Tournament Leader Board

You gain tournament leader board points by finishing in the top 15 of any regular multi-table tournament. Based on your ranking, you can win prizes on the Weekly, Monthly or Yearly leader boards.

Finish atop the weekly leader board, and you’ll get to play heads-up against a member of Team PokerStars (players like Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem and Vanessa Rousso). A $1,000 prize pool is available, and it rolls over to the following week if the pro wins.

Finishing in the Top 200 of the monthly leader board will net you a share of $30,000 in cash. First place gets a guaranteed $5,000. The top 1,000 on the leader board will receive free entry into a monthly TLB freeroll tournament.

If you’re sitting atop the leader board after playing for a year, then you’ll win a prize package good for five trips to live PokerStars tournaments (including airfare and accommodations). This could take you to places such as Barcelona, Monte Carlo, Seoul, Manila and Sydney. Second place will get to go to three events, while third place will receive two.

PokerStars Sunday Million

Each week, PokerStars holds a No Limit Hold’em tournament with a prize pool of $1 million. First place is a guaranteed $100,000, and the buy-in to the event costs $215. If that seems a little steep, you can always qualify through satellite events which run throughout the week.

PokerStars Sunday Warm-Up

Held prior to the Sunday Million tournament, this event is a $500,000 guaranteed No-Limit Holdem tournament. The buy-in is $215, but you can also qualify through a number of satellite tournaments.

World Series of Poker Satellites from PokerStars

PokerStars has sent more players to the World Series of Poker than any other site, and this year they’ll be sending an impressive 2,000 people. Tournaments are running all the time, and the largest one ($350 + $20 buy-in) will be sending 200 players to the WSOP Main Event. In all, PokerStars is giving away $1,000,000 in WSOP prize packages.

Asia Pacific Poker Tour

This live tournament is expected to take place in Auckland, Sydney, Manila, Macau and Seoul. PokerStars is giving away seats at each of these locations, and all you have to do is enter and win one of the event’s satellite tournaments. Prize packages include hotel, airfare and spending money.

Latin American Poker Tour

Taking place in Punta del Este, Rio de Janeiro and San Jose, the Latin American Poker Tour is another exciting live tournament which you can win entry into courtesy of PokerStars. Numerous satellite tournaments are available, and entry fees are as low as $7.50 or 500 frequent player points.

PokerStars Frequent Player Program

For each real money hand you play, you’ll earn frequent player points at PokerStars. You also earn 5 FPPs for each dollar spent in tournament fees. Check the PokerStars site for all the ways which you can gain points.

Once you’ve gained enough FPPs, you can spend them to gain entry into Sit & Go and multi-table tournaments. You can also visit the FPP Store and purchase items such as clothing, books, DVDs and even flat-screen televisions.

To check how many FPPs you’ve acquired, go to the lobby and click on “Cashier.” If you do not gain any FPPs in a given calendar year, then all accrued FPPs will be lost.

Pokerstars Promotion Overview

PokerStars Sunday Million is the biggest weekly internet poker tournament going and the Pokerstars Sunday Warmup is a nice alternative for those not willing to spend hours every Sunday chasing the money. My favorite Pokerstars promotion is Battle of the Planets, maybe just because I always loved the t.v. show growing up. Seriously, though, Pokerstarz makes it easy for players to find their level of competition with Battle Of The Planets, the kind of attention to character usability needs which makes PokerStars promotions generally so successful.
