Pokerstars Tournaments
One of the main reasons Pokerstars is listed as a top poker room on our site is because of the phenomenal tournament line-up they offer on a daily basis. A number of formats are available, and you can find buy-ins ranging from $1 to several thousand.
In addition, they also host satellites to live poker events. These include the always-popular Pokerstars.com WSOP satellites and the Latin American Poker Tour.
The following are a few of the biggest and best tournaments offered by Poker Stars:
Sunday Warm-Up
The Sunday Warm-Up is the first major tournament to mark the beginning of a new week, and it features a guaranteed $500,000 prize pool. It’s available every Sunday at 12:45 ET, and you can enter for $215 or qualify for as little as $3. Top prize winners typically walk away with over $75,000. To locate the tournament, go to the “Tourneys” tab and then click “Special.”
Sunday Millions
On the heels of the $500,000 Sunday Warm Up comes the biggest game offered on a regular basis by Pokerstars. Known as the “Sunday Millions,” the prize pool is guaranteed to be at least a million U.S. dollars, and the top player will walk away with at least $100,000. This tournament draws a lot of participants, however, and the prize pool often greatly exceeds the guaranteed amount.
You can buy-in for $215, and the game of choice is No Limit Texas Holdem. On the third Sunday of every month, Pokerstars also offers this game with a buy-in of $1,050. This means that the prize pool will be even greater than usual, but players on a budget can still get involved by winning a qualifier (which are held daily). You can find the Sunday Millions tournament by clicking the “Tourneys” tab and then choosing “Special.”
Tournament Leader Boards
Pokerstars is all about competition, and you’ll find that the tournament players can really drive this point home. A multi-table tournament leaderboard has been incorporated into the site, allowing players to really show off their card-playing skills.
Every time you enter a tournament and place in the top 15%, you will be awarded Tournament Leaderboard Points (also known as TLB). The points awarded will vary according to what limits you are playing, the amount of participants and where you placed. As these points accumulate, you’ll find yourself appearing on the following leader boards:
Weekly Leader Board
The Weekly Tournament Leaderboard at Pokerstars will use your ten best results from tournaments you participated in on Sunday thru Saturday of a given week. The player with the highest TLB score will be awarded by getting to engage in a heads-up game against professional players from Team Pokerstars (this includes players such as Chris Moneymaker and Isabelle Mercier). The prize for the heads-up match will consist of a $1,000 prize pool. If the pro wins, the prize money will be rolled over to the following week’s leaderboard challenge.
Monthly Leader Board
The Monthly Tournament Leaderboard will take your top 20 tournament results from the first day of the month until the last day of the month. The top 200 players on the leaderboard will compete in the Monthly Leaderboard tournament for a prize pool of $30,000. The first place finisher will receive $5,000 for their hard work, and the top 1000 players in the MLB will receive entry into the $20,000 Monthly TLB freeroll.
Yearly Leader Board
This is the top prize for loyal tournament players at Pokerstars, and this one calculates your top 100 finishes from tournaments over the course of the entire year. If you finish atop the yearly leader board, you’ll find yourself awarded with a Five Stamp Pokerstars Passport. This gives the recipient sponsorship into five Pokerstars’ live events, along with spending money, airfare and accommodations. Players finishing second and third will win a two-way stamp passport and three-way stamp passport, respectively.
